Hey Folks,
I made my first mead, a batch of JAOM, earlier this week, no problem. Nice activity but nothing crazy.
Today I made a strawberry mead using old clover honey , K1-V1116 yeast rehydrated, 1 pound of strawberries that had been frozen, smashed, defrosted, and introduced, and 18 raisins.
Much more vigorous activity and 4 hours in, the bung and airlock were pushed off, and strawberries and foam were oozing slowly out of the top of the 1 gallon glass jug. Long story short, after 2 of those episodes, and then having it just overflow when I left the bung out, I decided to transfer it to a bucket.
Got everything set up, then when I went to lift and move the bucket, some of the Star San from the airlock flowed into the must.
Did I just see my batch get ruined?
Thanks.
