ripped grain bag & plate chiller

I back flushed with hot water & oxyclean about 25 times & the flow of water is coming out strong, but I still have grain particles coming out of plate chiller.
Any suggestions on any other cleaners or methods?

soak in PBW for a day then flush again maybe..

Some people have used strong acids like the type breweries use to clean them...but I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have the training or equipment.

Try some drain-O maybe and then heat it up in your oven perhaps. Maybe the heated caustic will dissolve the organic matter- I have never done this and don't know if this will ruin your plate chiller

I'd stick with the soaking in hot PBW and high water pressure to try and unclog it. Something about drano just sounds wrong...

Drano is a caustic, and caustic is used by big breweries to clean equipment. It is fine, you just have to be extremely careful.

Honestly it is really the only way to get rid of the bad nasties.

Well... unbelievably... 4 days of flushing & soaking in PBW, I still have pieces of grain coming out of plate chiller So im going to go ahead & set my oven to clean & puy in the plate chiller.This is a 3 hr process of high heat. Anyone see any harm being done to the chiller from this?

I'd go ahead with the oven cleaning routine.

FWIW, I have used Draino to clean kegs before. It works very very well. I did a Drano soak, then rinsed several times and then an Acid #5 soak and rinse. Took off all the beer scale and over films I just couldn't get off any other way...

I wouldn't mess with draino...there's all different types of it. Some are enzymatic, some are basic, some are acidic. You can probably find strong acid at the HD. I know I used some to etch concrete, etc. Again, don't do it if you don't have the training or equipment necessary.

All good points..

I used the Drano crystals in the can. Not any of the liquid cleaners.

I just took it out of the oven cooled it, hooked it up to the pump and did a flush with hot water....... and out came ash it actually smelled like a smoked porter & thanks.
