Reggae, rocksteady, and ska fans?

This thread's been dormant for a while, and this one isn't ska/reggae/rocksteady, but it's a great soul track by the queen of rocksteady, so I'm counting it. Was my jam all morning.

I used to listen to a lot of third wave back in high school (streetlight, big d, catch, bosstones, mu330, etc.) Lately I've been getting back into ska which I must say, I'm thrilled about. It just gives you that warm fuzzy feeling and u can't stop moving the English beat puts on a hell of a show. I've seen them with jerry Dammers and on another occasion with lynval Golding (both of the specials) also caught the specials on their us tour a few months ago. I usually listen to jammy improv type stuff (mostly the dead to be honest... Also check out twiddle, they will blow your mind wide the eff open) but yes as I said I've been getting back into ska a bunch. At vibes this year fishbone played on Sunday and man, I gotta say that was absolutely THE best set of the weekend. Even with 2 nights of Phil and friends (with Scofield). Anyway... Carry on, all! I'm not wild about The English Beat (my least favorite 2 Tone band by far) but they certainly do put on a good show. They're coming around here again later in the month (they do so regularly). I was pissed as hell to find out the day after it happened that The Selecter was playing near here, whom I've never seen before.

I would LOVE to see the selector. My local NPR station had Pauline black on a couple weeks ago but I happened to tune in just as they were ending the interview

Love second wave ska (2 tone): The Specials, English Beat, Madness, The Selecter. A good compilation worth seeking out is called "This Are 2 Tone." I also enjoy some Bob Marley, Peter Tosh (they toured with the Stones in '80!), Jimmy Cliff, Dekker. Look for Desmond Dekker's "Black and Dekker," a great comeback album from the early '80s--includes a really cool, faster-tempo version of "Israelites."

I haven't brewed to it, but might have to do a reggae/ska brew day next time.

Reggae is hands-down my favorite style of music! Next to Phish, of course (they are their own category).

I can see some country influence, but that's definitely not country. Hah. Got kind of a Lovers Rock vibe to it. A little too new school for my taste, but definitely prefer it to dancehall
