I have all of their CDs and just saw them live in Providence... love that band. I've gotten a bunch of my friends addicted as well.

They put out some great stuff. Never got that big into them, but I've always loved what I've heard.

Found myself listening to a bit of Judge Dread tonight. Not going to post any links, as pretty much any of his songs would be completely ****. But if you don't mind gratuitous innuendo and double entendre, he's really, really funny.

I've been listening to ska since I was in the 5th grade when a family friend gave me some Madness, Specials, & English Beat records. Now, that I'm almost 40, I'm still listening to the stuff, mainly from the 60s and the European stuff from the late 80s/early 90s.

I have a big box full of demo tapes from all over the world from the early 90s when I was a ska DJ for the local college radio show. I need to convert those to mp3 soon!

Chris Murray was in King Apparatus years ago. I never really liked them, but his solo stuff is great. Here's a video of him with Vic Ruggiero (of the Slackers). Last time I saw Chris Murray play, the Slackers were playing at a different club in Boston, and Vic showed and did a bunch of songs with him.

Man, some gems in here. Made me miss Trelawny something fierce. That place is home right there. I hit the cockpit country for a couple of months every year. It's good to get back to the roots of life. Trees, mountains, fishing, stars, and nobody around (unless I go to Duncans for supplies)

Definitely some things in common, but I don't know if I'd go so far as to call them similar.

I've always been into Punk and Ska/Punk. I do like the traditional Ska style but I haven't been exposed to much. I like it a little more than Reggae just because the tempo is a bit faster and upbeat.

I do love me some punk, but I'm not a huge fan of ska-punk. There's a few artists I don't mind, but I prefer to keep the genres separate.

I've been digging a lot more rocksteady than anything else lately. Love the (usual) vocal harmonies. But a lot of old skinhead reggae is plenty uptempo.

When Madness put out their Dangermen album and I finally saw the roots of their music through those fantastic covers, I finally came around and started learning more about first-wave ska (which i didn't realize pre-dated reggae by about a decade). I picked up a couple compilations at the library and heard my first Desmond Dekker, Toots and the Maytals, and my new favorite ska single,

hells yeah! I used to catch a lot of crap from from a lot of the other guys about it. they thought it was Oi! or nothing. I love some great Oi!, but love the ol' moonstopin' just the same.

I love that song. Can't figure out if I like Cliff or Dekker's version better. I'd probably go with Dekker, but they're very similar. I've heard a few other versions over the years, but don't' remember offhand who did them.

Those Trojan box sets are fantastic. I'm big on the Rude Boy and Rocksteady ones. Mod Reggae is a good one too.
