I have a few pounds of different grains I have bought over the last couple of years and do not want to throw them out. They are unmilled and I am hoping if if brew up 9 or 10 pounds of the grains with 3.3 lbs of DME I might come up with something drinkable rather tossing them in garbage. I will also be using some older packets of hop pellets.

Any suggestions ? If you have done this I would really appreciate a step by step description as working with grains is fairly new to me. Thanks.

What grains? We can't help if we don't know what you have.

Why have I seen many posts lately of new members that have 'years of experience' that don't seem to have years of experience?

EDIT: Speaking of original post

You don't want to just dump a bunch of grains into a brew and hope for the best. if you have too much of a particular type grain the beer won't be very good. for instance, you wouldn't want 3 pounds of crystal malt or 1 pound of black patent in a 5 gallon batch.
Now, if your 10 pounds of grain are composed of mostly Marris Otter or some other fermentable grain, you can probably make a pretty good beer.

Put a few grains in your mouth and give them a good chewing, if they don't taste fresh or sweet, you may want to change your plans...
