Been brewing for awhile now and always wanted to eventually get in to kegging. However, apartment living cramps that style pretty quickly (no second fridge, and with the food for the family, not enough room in current fridge). Anyway, I was given a free 1/4 barrel sanke keg but it didn't come with the stem or metal ring. I've tried looking around online and haven't really come across any sites that sell the stem and other parts I would need (I will also need a co2 tank, regulator, lines, etc - although I'd be okay starting out with a picnic tap). Is there a place to get the stem and metal ring online, or any other suggestions?

If not, are there other uses for the keg? I already have several 8 gallon boiling kettles, so I don't really have an interest in turning it into another kettle. I suppose I could ferment in it, but without the co2 and stuff, what would be the advantage? Looking for some advice, and hoping I can find the parts (or the guy finds the parts in his basement like he promised).

Thanks for any help! Brew on!

Shorty or slim? What type of keg? Micromatic sells the spears and snap rings, but with the number of kegs converted to keggles around here, I'm sure you could easily find someone on the forum with a spare spear or two they'd be wiling to give you for the cost of shipping.

It is a 1/4 barrel shorty sanke keg. Thanks for the suggestions on the spears. I'd love to use it as a keg but interested in my potions, including offer uses. Thanks again!

As a side note, how can I tell whether the sanke keg is a d system or another system?
