I picked up a bottle of Dick's Grand Cru at the local grocery store last week. Well today after dinner I decided to crack open that bad boy. I don't know if I got a bad bottle of what, but it tasted like sour vomit. I almost upchucked my dinner, and my taste buds haven't been the same for hours. It says on the bottle it is supposed to have a complex intense fruity character. Yeah, fruity bum vomit. I STILL have the taste of that raspy stuff in my mouth.

I have tried other belgian abbey style ales and they didn't taste like this crap. I guess you would have to just develop a taste for this stuff. Bad bottle or not, i'll probably never try this stuff again.

Well thanks for sharing that experience as I was going to try it to see what it tasted like, but not now.

Might have been a bad one, but then again that's why I don't experiment with the Belgians yet. Just haven't developed a taste for it yet.

I've got my second batch of Belgian Wit Grand Cru in the fermenter right now. My wife, mother in law, and several friends claim it's their favorite. I like it well enough, but Hefeweizen, Oatmeal Stout, and Porters are my real favs. This batch is fortified with Pear Honey, more corriander, and more orange peel. It smells wonderful.

Can't say any of them ever tasted like vomit though.... thank God.
