Random Bottling Question

Hi everyone,

New to the forum (i have been lurking in the shadows for a while but just registered) and figured I'd get my silly question out of the way right off the bat.

I recently came into possession of about a dozen mexican coke bottles. you know, the glass ones. lol. I was thinking of trying to bottle using these just for the heck of it. Anyone have any thoughts/input on this? my biggest concern is capping. I am hoping i wont run into any problems finding caps that work.

One point that was brought to me was the fact that the bottles are clear and that can mess up the flavor i guess due to light getting in? I usually age my bottles in a dark cabinet that doesn't get opened for anything other than my brewing.

anyway that is my random thought/question about my idea. Please let me know what you think!

I don't see why they wouldn't work. They're heavy glass,& bottle caps are pretty much standardized. Just keep them in a box,or cabinet where they can condition at as close to 70F as you can.

yesss..... super excited about using these. I want to do a real dark beer in them at some point.

That way it just looks like a bottle of coke! lol!

Heh, I have one of these sitting on top of my fridge from the little bodega up the street and I was contemplating using it just for kicks too... conveniently I am brewing a Stout next...

I used the small coke bottles as samplers, I BC in the dark also (lol insert chuckle) they worked great... FWIW

That's why I wish I'd saved all those Little Kings cream ale bottles. They were,like 8oz's. We used to call'em "little killers". Gotta go check the BK again...

I was planning on doing the same thing! I have a few mexican coke bottles. Maybe you should try capping yours empty first, just to see if the fit is the same.

Yea that was my plan. I need to get caps and a capper first. I have the bottles stashed away at work for the time being until i have a little extra room. With my luck if i bring em home my lady would surely recycle them on me! lol.

I am pretty stoked for using these. I am going to use a couple of em as samplers for coworkers because I figure I would have a good chance of getting the bottle back. That and I don't want to give away my litre bottles, lol.
