Ranco Programming Question

I have the Ranco 2 stage ETC 211000-000 and programming it is a little confusing. I've been reading the manual but I'm stuck. Can someone explain the C1/H1 and C2/H2 settings. I don't get what the significance and operation. Thanks, Mike
