Hey, I'm about to do a batch of porter. I just went to the water dispenser to fill up my 5gallon water bottles and realized that there must have been some leftover starsan residue because I used it as a blow-off container. I'm sure there isn't much, but I still wanted to ask and make sure it was ok to do a boil with this water?

It's all a mater of "how much" which determines whether it will effect flavor. The good news is that Starsan is a "no rinse" sanitizer which means it does not have to be rinsed off (though probably would not hurt to shake off as much as you can) after sanitizing. I have no personal experience with Starsan since I use iodaphor (a tad bit cheaper, especially if you don't brew often), but from what I've read Starsans sanitizing power comes from the fact that it's an acid. If you have a tiny amount of Starsan with a large amount of water or wort, the sanitizing power goes away so it won't hurt the yeast (I've heard Starsan is actually a yeast nutrient).

You'll have no problem with this. I use StarSan exclusively in all of my batches now and there is always quite a bit of residual foam in the carboy once it is sanitized. Never experienced any type of negative taste afterwards. Boiling the water with the StarSan shouldn't be an issue at all...

Thanks. Much appreciated.... Porter is bubbling away in the fermenter now.
