So I have my wort boiling now, after cooling and transfering the wort, do I just place the hydrometer in the fermenting jub? Thanks alot, I tried a quick search, but making sure I do not screw this up, preggo gf was not happy about this purchase.

Right before you pitch the yeast, yeah you could do it that way. An impeccably cleaned and sanitized hydrometer right in there so you can read it and snatch it back out should be totally cool.

Or pour some in the tube it came in and float it there. then drink the sample you took to know what it tastes like pre-ferment.

I'm glad I did this on mine. It tasted like a hoppy flat beer soda.

Take the temperature too, that way you can adjust the hydrometer reading based on the temp. I'm going to stick my thermometer right into the hydrometer tube next time. I forgot to do this and it might have been why my OG was off a bit.

Hey thanks for all the help. I have to pick up a thermometer in a minute, thought came with kit, I thought wrong, so running to store real quick and grabbing fiancee flowers for her at work.

Thanks for advice about putting it in the tube, did not think about that.

I appreciate all the help.

Had a small sample from my kit, tasted alright. Did a secondary rack but bottled a bottle so to see if there a taste difference within that week. The crap at the bottom of the bucket was pretty disgusting, looked like sand. No idea how going to get it out of the bucket.

After I did the second rack, used a bleach/water mixture to clean bucket then I put it away. Debating about doing a second batch this week at some point.
