I just brewed my first beer this past Saturday. I know the airlock is just the vent, I don't plan on opening the bucket until three weeks as long as I can stay patient. I did notice that the airlock produced bubbles if the lid was off of the airlock itself, but with the lid on the airlock, no bubbles. I know it's fermenting like it should, I was just curious, is this normal with certain airlocks?

Three piece or S airlock? If you have a three piece, it's possible you over filled it and the bubbler part can't pop up to release the pressure with the lid on.

It's a 3 piece, sorry I thought I put that in the original post. So if I filled it too much, that would cause it?

That would stop the "jiggler" from lifting, but the air would eventually push down past hte edge of the jiggler and come out. Are the small holes in the top cap open or clogged? If clogged, you have a plug and not an airlock.

The jigger was lifting all the way to the lid, and the lid has some small holes in it to vent. I'm pretty sure I just filled it up too much. The jigger has lowered back down now, so either fermentation has stopped or slowed down as I assumed it would by the end of the first week. Now its just trying to leave it for a few more weeks without messing with it.
