I've come across a few large (55 gallon) steel (not stainless) drums on craigslist. I was wondering if these were ok for using as an HLT. All of the ones I have seen say they are food safe. One in particular says it has an epoxy lining. I have two large stainless steel barrels for my boil and mash, so I just need more.

Thanks in advance for the help/advice!

Not 100% sure, but the question is how much heat can the epoxy handle before melting? If you are using it merely as a holding tank, it's one thing, but if you plan on directly heating it, that's another story.
