Tasting Notes
Classic British IPA: malty, back end hop bitterness, spicy
Hey everyone!

This is my first contribution to the recipe page! Easily the most successful beer I have brewed so far, a British-style IPA. Definitely has a big malt profile, the hop flavor is somewhat muted but balanced, and back end bitterness is big. Plus, I brewed it for a lighter body so it is actually rather quaffable and refreshing.

Looks good - love the recipe name!

I'll be brewing an English IPA this weekend - using Bramling Cross hops (among others) for the first time. What's your evaluation of them?

Cheers,

Long name for a beer, Queens Indian English India Pale Ale, but it looks good. How did you decide on your hop combinations? Hop combinations are a major weakness in my brewing.

@Frazier: I like the Bramling Cross a lot! They've got a very American side to them that is quite refreshing, almost an herbal, grapefruit type flavor to them.

@flars: You're not supposed to spell the whole thing out (haha!). I am a chess player, so my beers reflect chess themes. Hop combos are basically done with a ton of research and trial/error. I look at various hop websites, BeerSmith has some decent descriptions to work with, and the BeerLegends and BYO websites are incredibly helpful as well. Posting on these message boards is also a great way to go!
