PVC Tower question

So I am going to try and make a kegerator with a PVC tower. I have an old 3" straight shank. Will this work in a 3" or 4" wide PVC tube?

I'd think a 3" shank would be far too long for even a 4" column - especially if that's a straight shank.

These are pricey, but they're the ideal solution for a round column build....
