Well, I WAS planning on brewing a pumpkin ale this weekend...

NO place has canned pumpkin yet. Guy at local Giant Eagle said they hadn't had any for like 10-months!!

What are sugar pumpkins? I've read a bit about using butternut squash. Would you prepare it just like a pumpkin, cut it and roast it and throw it into the mash?

yeah i just skinned and sliced the squash and roasted. Then I cooled, smashed, and roasted again.

Btw butternut squash has this oil under the skin that most people are allergic to, it made my hands all weird for a day... wear gloves if you work with squash or buy them already cut up!

I must be lucky, since I found a ton of canned pumpkin at multiple whole foods up here in Chicago.
