I was lucky enough to be given a march pump. It works, but it is much louder than the pump I already have. I didn't run it dry. I oiled the pump. I did change the impellor to the 815 model, but that shouldn't matter..

The pump does move water, just loudly. Am I missing something that I should be checking out?

That does track with my situation. This pump is at least 8 years old, if not slightly older.

Take the pump head off (4 phillips screws) and run the motor alone...see whats making the most noise...if its the motor then its either the fan blades making the noise or if its been dropped it could have the motor alignment knocked off.
If its the pump head it could be a tight impeller on the shaft....maybe the thrust washer is worn out...or the impeller is worn out and wobbling...etc...
