priming sugar frustration!

I am trying to prime 4L of wort and I am getting 2 very different numbers from Northern brewer's calculator which I usually use and beersmith which seem to be under estimating.

So frustrating!

My wort is 4L
Temp is 22C
Prime at 2.5 volumes with honey

Beersmith gives me 22.57g honey
Northern Brewer gives 31.9g

Please help me before I jump off the building!

I just compared with another site and the total is also different.

Are these sites just pulling these figures out of their asses???

The corn syrup numbers are all different as well!

From my experience BeerSmith trends to be lower than the other calculators, and none of them are going to give you the exact same numbers.

My suggestion would be to pick one of the calculators and stick with it. If you go with BeerSmith and find what it suggests for 2.5 a little low, next time try 2.7... Eventually you'll have a good feel for what to aim for with whatever calculator you pick.

It's the same issue with IBUs, ask sites will give you slightly different results... You just gotta stick with one and you'll get used to it.

+1 to picking one calculator and then adjusting it to your tastes once you get a feel for it.

I primed my first 1 gal/4 L batch with 44 g of honey and it was overcarbed, but nowhere near the point of bottle bombs. I needed to get to about 2.5 volumes as well. My intuitive guess would be to trust the Northern Brewer calculator. Or, split the difference. I don't think Beersmith will get you to 2.5. YMMV.

Is there any chance Beersmith was set to corn sugar? I always use 20-24 g of corn sugar to prime a gallon of beer.
