Priceless brewing calc ?

The calculator is subtracting 4.5 fluid ounces per ounce of hops to account for absorption.

My little amount of research varies. Some state that leaf has greater absorption, some feel the difference b/w pellet and leaf is negligible, depending on how well the brewer is able to drain the kettle. The most efficient being squeezing a hop bag.

Unless you are using large amounts of leaf, I wouldn't be overly concerned. Your methods will determine the actual hop absorption losses.

Perhaps adding a few ounces of extra water per ounce of leaf would be prudent, but I don't strive for that kind of precision with my brewing.

Thank's I will proly just go with what the calc tells me to use water wise and see what happens. Going to brew up a 2.5 ipa using 7 or 8 ounces of Citra.

Is this calc based using pellet hops or fresh/dried/whole hops.

The only credible sources I could find were for dried whole hops, and it is the 0.0365 gal/oz that is the default in the website. I haven't found a credible source yet for the absorption rate for dried pellet hops, so until I do, or until someone does an experiment for it, I will just assume it's similar enough to not make much of a difference.
