A beginners question.
Has anyone ever prepared their buttering hops in the sparge water before transferring into the mash tun?
Iand is there a drawback to doing this or an advantage?
Thank you in advance.

I'm not sure why you would want to, there's debate about whether hopping in the mash does much at all let alone starting the process in the sparge water. I think FWH would be more effective.

We'll I had heard about some doing so in the mash and thought why not do it in the sparge stage thereby minimizing any matter that may create to much cloudiness in the end.

hmmmm . . . if you pre boiled your sparge water with hops you'd get isomerization that should carry over. Since you're going to boil the wort anyway, it doesn't seem to be worth it, but you never know until you try. There may be some hop character that can only be achieved in that way.

What do you think would cause the isomerization?

Sorry...I said would instead of wouldn't. My bad. It would work ok,but not as good as in the boil kettle with wort. the wort def gives better isomerazation.
