I see some of the recipes use pounds of honey.. others use a volume like a quart or a gallon. Costco has nice looking honey for a reasonable price.. I believe the quantity is 5 pounds. Wondering how much mead that quantity is good for. Probably 1 gallon? I'd guess if I were to try to do a recipe by SG, I would just have to add water and shake like crazy till I hit the recommended gravity.

But, for a first run.. would the 5# be enough for a gallon? I was hoping to do the quick recipe (BOMM) here on this forum.

I sent a message, but I'll repost some useful conversions here:

1 cup honey = 0.75 lbs
3.2 cup honey = 2.4 lbs
1 gallon honey = 12 lbs

BOMM uses 2.4 lbs honey per gallon or 12 lbs honey for a 5 gallon batch.
Both end up with a SG in the 1.09-1.1 range.
You have enough for 2 gallons!

Thanks Bray.. I think it may be a match made in heaven. I like 2.5 g batches.. Just have to trim it back a bit maybe.. unless I want a less powerful mead. :)

If you are interested in adding fruit, I've had good results from Costco's frozen strawberries or their triple berry mix.

BBBF.. that will only be after I've made a couple of small batches or a basic mead. Thanks for the info.

BTW, did you add the berries at initial ferment or later, as in a secondary? The two vids I've watched are primary.
