I was thinking about building a small insulated box with a cooling coil that wold fit around a cornie.

Tear appart a fridge and modify the cooling coils/make a new coil that coul fit around a cornie. fit everything into the box, insulate, install controller, handles on the outside.

The top would lift out to remove/install the keg. Top mount tap with catch pan. Mostlikely wouldn't use a tower, just build something to mount the tap to, maybe play with a little metal or something.

Have to figure out mounting the condenser coils, maybe make a removable panel to protect the coil. A couple of thumb screws to keep it in place.

As long as you have 120V outlet you are good to go. Prettty limited use, but great for parties.

What do you guys think? Plausable?

Still trying to figure out if I should modify the top of a cornie so there will be a coil in the beer(might freeze on the coils) or make the coil slightly smaller than a cornie so you untwist it slightly to open it up to fit snugly around the cornie.

I'll definnately do a wriite-up when I get this done.

Or put good casters on a kegerator.

But still--- the idea of a compact, easy to transport keg refridgeration device is kinda neat. I mean, not all beers taste their best ice cold.

There's this

which is a home built version of this:

or

but these are spendy 3 gal cornies and use ice.

A hard sided cooler is bulky and I'm sure that one that could fit a ~25" high? 5 gal corny would be horribly expensive, inefficient, obtuse and difficult to find.

I'm OK with ice but I think that I would prefer a soft sided cooler that had pockets for ice packs as well as wheels and retractable handle like a travel rollerbag.

Way cool , I had no idea these were available , I had envisioned making one with 2" foam and panelling and then mounted on a luggage hand truck thing. you know what I mean. and it wouldn't be so expensive, or cool looking, but it would work . oh well back to the fridge I'm empty

That looks pretty cool, but howmuch do the 2.5-3 gal. kegs run. Haven't seen any used anywhere.
How fast will they go between 8-15 people?

I think something built out of wood and stained would look a little bit nicer, and could probably be built for a comparable price. Especially if I put it together at the same time I build my brewshed. I know of a used appliance shop up the road that I could get the guts from a beat up fridge for cheap, or take parts from the broken one out back and just replace the seals, modify, and recharge it

Depends on how much they drink and how fast.

3 gallons = ~360 fluid ounces = ~30 beers So call it about a case of beer and ask yoruself if that's enough for your purposes.

I know what you're thinking D*Bo . You're thinking did he say 30 beers or only 25. And to tell you the truth I forgot myself in all this excitement. But being this is a 3 gallon cornelius keg, the most portable homebrewing beverage dispensing system in the world and will pour your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself a question. Do I feel lucky? Well do you, D*Bo?

ohhh..... that's goood.

Hey by the way, what type of Jeep(s) do you drive?

I don't think 2 beers a person is a good ration.

Not to sure if I like it. Haven't seen soft top or half doors. I run no top or doors and the windshield down from March to October or November, but that's in a CJ. Don't think the newer Jeeps like the rain that much.
Also have an 89YJ that's awaiting build up into a rock crawler. Got to get the new axles in the next few weeks.

I'm top down most of the time even when it's 100+ here, but it's my daily driver.

It would be nice to have the front driver and passenger tops off and leave the back on.
Hard top gives the perception of security for locking stuff up. I currently have 3 locking tuffy boxes in my 03:off:

I just keep nothing of value in the CJ. Also one look at it and potential theives would probably turn away. Tub swap, so body diffrent color than hood & fenders, grille black, and tail gate another color.

And to keep this on topic a little bit.
I removed the icemaker from my lagering fridge and found there is a cooling coil that I mighht use if I can acquire a couple more to cool the cooler.

edit: just thought about that and realized the coil is probably a heater that comes on just prior to the ice being pushed out of the mold to break and bonding of the ice to the mold.
