So it's been a couple months since my last brew (ugh), and I stored my plastic fermentation buckets in a somewhat dank basement. Today I discovered that some small mold spots had developed on the inside of the buckets. I cleaned the mold off easily enough with a soft sponge and there are no stains, but I'm not sure if the mold spores could have absorbed into the plastic and become embedded. Should I be worried about using the bucket to ferment in? I plan on soaking it in hot OxyClean, and then letting starsan sit in there overnight. Think I'll be safe? Any other steps I should take to ensure the mold is cleaned out? And curious what you all think about using Lysol spray in there before I do the hot oxyclean soak? Thanks!

No to the Lysol. Give it a quick wash with what ever you want (fragrance free preferably) then throw the Starsan in. That will kill whatever nasties you had in there.

No Lysol.

Clean it with hot oxyclean. You can let it soak over night.

Rinse with water then rinse with Star San. No need to soak in Star San.

The bucket is fine unless it's riddled with scratches. Even then, it is probably fine.
