Need advice on how to losen pin-lock posts from kegs

I have 6 recently purchased kegs

2 Ball Lock, 4 Pin-lock.

Ball lock post removal -- no plm (in fact I kegged a batch for the first time this AM --too easy!)

Using special $25 Pin-Lick socket, I still cannot remove Pin-lock posts. I fear I will break off the pins (Then, I suppose a regular deep socket would remove them, but I would need to replace the posts since the disconnects wouldn't fit anymore)

I am trying hot water soak right now, but I am losing faith...

Any suggetstion ?

The socket doesn't push on the pins, the slots are just there to accomodate the pins. Lay the keg on its side on a carpet, straddle it, have someone else supply the torque.

Thanks -

It looks like the socket doesn't go all the way across the post - it isn't deep enough it seems.. the slots aren't long enough

I have already destroyed one post (now has 1 pin instead of 2 ... joy!)

I have 3 left ... I will try the 2 person technique...

Can't figure why it is so difficult (although the kegs have not been used in a few years ...)

If your pins are breaking the socket must not fit properly. I'd open up the slots before I use it again (or return it for a new one)

Yeah -

Called Midwest Supplies abt socket ... very nice guy.

Told me to return the socket for a replacement ...

Live and learn ...

Thx for post

Dang, I have an order being delivered by them today.

Better luck next time. I searched all day long locally for one, got a lot of funny looks....

Go to a pawn shop and buy a couple of deep sockets for a $1 and cut the slots yourself, that's what I did, and they work like a champ.....

I guess I never really closed this thread down --- sorry.

I got the pinlock socket back from Mid west, still did not work, until Paulthenurse came to our brewsession, as well as Hippie..

Their strength got the posts off...I am not as strong (and my tools are not that good)

SOOO - happy pinlocks now..

Grow a pair. Sorry I couldn't resist.

My keg system is all pin lock. If I could do it all over again I would have gone with ball lock. The only problem I've run into is finding kegs. I've managed to acquire six though.

I just use a crescent wrench, you do have to flip it around every so often to make sure you are not torquing the pins, but it does work.
