I just got a free side by side from my neighbor. I think it will hold 4 cornys plus my 5lb tank if I build a shelf. There's no way the stock shelves will hold 100+ lbs. I'm interested in seeing pics of your DIY shelf, particularly in side by side fridges. Thanks!

I just converted my side by side. See the below link to that thread. Let me know if you have questions.

Excellent, thanks. So it looks like you beefed up the shelf with wood 2x2's. Then are there brackets at the front of the shelf that screw into the fridge wall? Were you worried about hitting a coolant line?

And do you plan to remove the shelves from the door panel to extend the interior space? It looks like you have pin-locks, giving you a small extra shelf at the top for bottles. Im not sure I could pull that off with ball-locks.

Thanks for all of this jmward21. This gives me some ideas to start from.

Anyone else have picks or links to their side-by-side mods?

yes, you are correct. I have converted pin locks. Coke kegs with pepsi fittings. I bought everything from Home Depot. The brackets came with the hardware (there is a large selection of supports and mounting brackets near the hardware).

No worries about coolant lines for a fridge like this. Everything is in the back.

I didn't remove anything from the door. The cornies fit with door shelves. My 1 worry is if the 1/4 barrel will fit on the bottom next to the CO2 tank. The door has a built in shelf at the bottom which from my measurements will exactly 11-1/8" which is the diameter of the keg. Only 1 way to find find out. Guess I just need to go buy 1.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Here's my install, btw. More like a "table" built with 2x4s and a board I had laying around, very sturdy.

Oh wow! So you cut out the wall between the fridge and freezer? BTW what model is that @pxl8? Looks very similar to mine. Mine is RCA MSX20G.

So is it pretty standard for side by sides not to have coolant lines in the walls?

Hmm, I forget the model, maybe a GE from the 80s. It was donated from a friend. I can't say for sure on your model, but here's the cut out I made (patience is key):
