Has anyone ever tried to use the second or third runnings of a mash (for beer brewing) as a base for a root beer?

I've seen several recipes that call for brown sugar or honey and the like for sweetness but couldn't maltose be used just as well? Or would that be adding too much other stuff that would interfere with the root beer flavors?

Has anyone ever tried this?
