Is it necessary to add extra hops when doing a partial. I'm doing an American Wheat for my first brew ever tomorrow.

short answer yes

put you recipe in some software to see how much you need to add

all the best

I wouldn't stress it at all if it's his first brew. He would do best by just following the instructions and getting the proses down for the first few batches.

I would still hope to enjoy the finished product though.

Trust me you will. If you want to try and get into hops utilization and softwhare that's fine too. I'm just saying there are so many other more important veritables to lock down first. Some take a few brews to get just right. Out of the 30 or so partial boils I did before doing full boils I never bothered with the hops additions. My beers came out just fine.

I would follow the directions that came with your kit and enjoy the proses .:mug:

One more question. Should I worry about re hydrating my yeast or just pitch it dry

You can do that, what type of yeast is it ? As in brand ? I've done it both ways and works just fine. Just make sure your at 70 degrees or below in your fermentor after you top off with water, before pitching.

A partial wort boil will impact your hop utilisation, so yes. Not so much that you'll probably notice, and not as much as other factors, so no. If you want to make the adjustments, they're not that hard, so yes. The adjustments won't result in a markedly better beer, so no.

I hope that clears everything up.

PS: ultimately I'd say don't worry about it.

As your first brew I would say dry pitch it. You first brew day is going to feel crazy enough. Two things that come to mind you might want to do is late extract addition and make sure you have a blow off tube ready.

How do I even set up a blow off tube in my bucket

The easiest way is to use a piece of tubing with an OD large enough to fit snugly into the hole in the lid if you have a large stopper-hole and run it into small bucket filled with sanitiser. There are other options depending on your equipment.
