Need some help. I put an american pale ale in the primary. It is sealed tight (duct tape around bung). 9 hours in I have no noticeable activity. I'm going to give it a few days, but if I need to repitch. Can I use any of the following? Nottingham, Minton's ale, safale 04 . I have these on hand. If not are appropriate, I'll have to make a run.

9 hours is way too early to have any reason to believe a re-pitch may be necessary.
Some strains (eg: US-05) are notorious for taking 24 hours for fermentation activity to be evident...

Cheers!

Do you have any reason to think you have a problem? 9 hours is WAY, WAY, WAY too early to be getting concerned unless you think you did something wrong. I would wait at least 48 and maybe up to 72 hours before doing anything.

Nottingham and S-04 would turn your American pale ale into a British pale ale more or less. I am not familiar with Minton's. Could that be Munton's? If so I still don't know.

I suspect that everything is good and your fermentation will start soon.

What do you mean that it is "sealed"? Do you have an airlock or blowoff tube to let CO2 escape? If it is truly sealed with duct tape, that thing is going to blow when it gets going.

Leave it overnight and give it time. What yeast did you use?

Understand 9 hours way too soon to know. I have a 3 hour or so drive to get more yeast and tomorrow is my only day. I'm just planning ahead if need be. Air lock on with bung duct taped. Yes muntons ale (dang spell check). Thanks for the feed back
