I'm looking to purchase an outdoor burner or two...any suggestions on a couple that aren't complete garbage?

I purchased the Blichmann Top Tier burner because I thought that I might like to buy the Top Tier in the future (still haven't done that, but that is another story). I like this burner real well. I like the large 10 inch diameter. It heats well, and it is quiet. The cons are that it is expensive ($135) and you the longer leg options (which make it nice to siphon right into the fermenter) are another $35. I don't think that you could go wrong with this.
Having said this, I think you would also do well with the Bayou Classic Banjo burner (same burner as the Blichmann without the stainless body). I really do like the burner and you don't have the jet noise. I hope that this helps.

I like the blichmann a lot...price is a bit of an issue. I'm probably going the home depot cooler rout.

Bayou Classic SQ-14. They are cheap, you can get them at your local HW store, and they work very well.

Watch Cabela's. They sell a Kajun Cooker or Bayou Burner or some such Louisiana themed turkey fryer for real cheap sometimes. I got one. Well Under $100. Maybe under $50. It was cheap. You get a stand, burner, regulator with hose, fittings and a safety timer, aluminum pot with lid, lift out basket (or did I have that already?), grappling hook (turkey rack) and coat hanger (turkey rack lifter). Maybe even a thermometer. No tank. You gotta buy your own tank. They cost about $50 for the first one and around $20 for exchanges.

I've used it for two tanks worth of propane and it does fine. It aint fancy but it gets the job done. Works every time.

Home depot has a lovely exchange program. 2 full tanks 35$. Bayou it is!
