Honest question...has anyone here actually ever bought anything on MBC? I have not. Kind of odd browsing it just to make fun of the stupidity so I imagine someone is.

I've bought a few things:

-box of 12 awful beers (Bully Guppy, Lambeaks, Roble Blanco, etc) for $120

-12-shipper of BA barleywines/old ales from barleywinefiend (does he not have an account anymore?) for what was basically cost+shipping (he was trying to downsize)

-a few bottles of 2009 De Cam fruited lambics, again was close to cost+shipping (came out to about 40 a bottle)

There are occasionally some "deals" to be had, especially on older beers that can be hard to find/trade for. For instance I've seen stuff like 2006 Abyss for $100. Is that a good deal? Well, if you want to tick it probably, because good luck finding it for trade.

I did once looking for a very specific wedding gift (BA 2TD). Was $100, but the guy bonus'd me an old Temptation bottle and some other sour.

This thread is for the laughably out of touch offers, but there are some ones that aren't that bad.

To answer my own question, looks like barleywinefiend is alive and well. :) For some weird reason, his name doesn't get pulled up in the list of suggested tags when you start typing it after the @ symbol.

I bought a bulk lot of 1997 Sam Adams triple bock on MBC once, because, well... at $12/bottle it was worth it for the laughs to show up to shares for like 2 years and keep popping out Triple Bocks when everyone was hammered and the other bottles exhausted.

I became that guy.

Yeah one of the things MBC can be good for is picking up weird/old/legacy/curiosity/novelty beers and ticks.

Not to continue going off topic with beer selling and not trades but I always find it interesting that even though eBay has stopped beer sales you can buy a 4 pack of Heady Topper and other NEIPAs for essentially the cost of a case.

At risk of being labeled a newmoney trader, I have bought off there a couple times. Each time it was a good deal to me. Like a 2006 lpg for $150, stuff like that. Some decent prices pop up occasionally on there. Haven't been on there in a while though.

Same. I bought a few older LPK's for $120-ish last year, back when such things were possible. Not sure I'd trust such listings today.

Required an immediate shower upon payment, but LPK.

This has got to be the worst. What a ******* joke.

I just had this bottle, courtesy of KevSal from his epic BW tasting last weekend. It was very good, but it placed somewhere in the bottom of the top 5 out of a total of 18 beers. It was beat out by Anabasis, Leon, and Aaron, on par with that megawhale, Dave's Barrel Aged Barleywine by Angry Chair Brewing. Yup.

In case it goes away:
"This is Anchorage Brewing Companies most limited beer, and I am proud to be posting this beer to this site. This beer was very limited and only the most astute and elite of beer connoisseurs know how many of these were bottled. That number is a meager 147 bottles that were sold to the public and I know that because I know about what I am selling. Only the most progressive of beer drinkers know how many are left but this is certainly one of very few. My goal is to provide beer drinkers with the world's best beer. I believe that the inaccessibility of this beer should only make it better and knowing that it was mentioned on Facebook that 147 bottles were sold to the public and that only makes the beer drinker who knows that much cooler and progressive. This beer is priced with a progressive approach to bringing the greatest beer on earth to auction and allowing the entitled drinker a chance to purchase and quench their thirst. "

I progressively hate myself for reading that.

I mean, this is getting increasingly rare.

Im not one to invest much time/effort into the whole what are whales worth bro discussion but this doesnt seem that terrible considering the stupid prices instawhales/newmoney beers go for.

Unless we are reaching that point where taste is actually starting to play a factor into price and/or new people on the beer scene arnt familiar with what this is?

Ive always wanted to try that beer...but not at that cost.

I thought this beer was unreal dude. Crushed Anabasis and Aaron for me.

I think that the price, coupled with his super high level of over the top douchery, make this stand out. I couldn't try to type up a description that sounds more Shitlord.

Yep. I was going for the description/cost combo for maximum **** lordery. Last time I had Wooden Hell it was just over the hill. Certainly not worth the asking price. But I do love the description.

Now I don't know bottle counts etc, but this is ridiculous right?

The Archer isn't that rare is it? Making me rethink opening mine this weekend.

I hope that guy doesn't have to write anything as part of his job.
