"A two-time Gold Medal Winner in the World Beer Championships."

I love when people put stuff like that in the description while trying to hawk their beers. I mean, who the **** cares? There are so many ****** beers out there that are medal winners from this or that as to render the designation practically meaningless.
:(. I did that on my last ISO:FT. Newbie mistake I guess. I just figured most people wouldn't know who my local4local trade was...

If you were going to actually buy something from mybeercellar, what would you pick? Loons? 3F fruited sours like Malvassia Rosso or Framboos?

I was considering buying a Jolly Pumpkin Sobrehumano Palena'ole. The guy was selling a pair but offered me one for $25 shipped. It's gone now but I probably should have done it. I'm pretty in love with all things JP.

Like Shiner. No way in hell does the Spoetzl brewery make an award winning beer.... Shiner cheer is mildly acceptable.

I think that's a little bit different. You are trying to drum up some interest in a fair locals-for-locals trade with beer that many might never heard off. Not trying to hawk a marked-up bottle of beer on an auction site from one of the most famous breweries in the country.

LYMI

But this brings up a more general point that is broadly applicable: for any beer for which people are willing to pay MBC/auction prices, or the equivalent via trade (massively over $4$, etc.), there is no need to provide details, hype, selling points, etc. Anyone who wants those beers knows exactly what they are about. The minute someone starts doing what is being done in that listing, trying to hype up a shelf beer that they are charging a x3 markup on, it reeks of ********. That's obviously not the same thing as "here's some information on this beer you might not have heard of, trying to trade it $4$ for similar stuff" where the goal is to be informative and not to jack up the value.

honestly some of these prices are pretty obnoxious no doubt....but i guess they aren't for the people that have money to burn. i'm not gonna lie its extremely tempting, i don't know what it would take to land a rare at this point for me but i could imagine it wouldn't be cheap..i mean you're pretty much paying more than double sometimes triple but if its one of your biggest wants can you put a price on it? do you guys think rare is worth like -170 ? when they had the goose island event on black friday they held a silent auction for vanilla, rare etc and people were jotting down almost 200 and up for those bottles. i guess it just takes a lot of time and patience until you can acquire the ammo to trade for stuff like vanilla and rare...maybe one day ill get to try them :(

$45+$18 shipping for...Bolt Cutter:

How many ****** bottles like this from 2012 are going to start flooding that site once they are "allowed" (i.e. one year or older)?
Am I the only person on Earth who actually _liked_ Bolt Cutter?

Didn't like it enough to pay $63 for it though, especially as I can order like a case or two of Orval for that price and have it shipped to my doorstep, all nice and legal.

Is there any place left to buy bottles other than mybeercellar?
I'm going to to a couple big tastings pretty soon amd I don't have the ammo to trade for anything really exciting... but I wouldn't be opposed to a cash transaction.

I just don't want to pay triple 2012 ebay prices.

I hated Bolt Cutter at first, but then I developed a palate for barleywines and love it now. Cracked one about a month or so ago and it still tasted as fresh as a year ago. Couldn't believe how much hop presence there still was. Have two more chilling in the fridge now. However, would not pay $63 for it either.

On a rare occasion, you can actually find a decent deal on MBC. I remember seeing someone posting a FW set that included Parabola '12 and '13, Sucaba '12 and '13, DDBA '12, and XVI for $150. $25 per bottle for world class beer that I can't find on any shelf in Michigan? Sign me the **** up.

You never know what some people like/are in need of...Post a list and see :)

There are sites like LetsPour (in fact, LetsPour has 50/50 Eclipse Evan Williams for $37 a pop if you're feeling rich) and BeerShip has their Captain's List that has a bunch of rare/vintage brews for higher prices too, but I don't think their as gougy as MBC is or eBay was.

$80 for 09 Abyss! Sign me up!

In all seriousness, they do have some that aren't terrible. 2009 Mirror Mirror for "only" $28, think it was $75 at a local establishment in the City near me. Same with Stone IRS Belgo. It's $50 at the same place, but $14 on there. Inconsistent though, as they have Jubel 2010 for $42! I literally bought that off the shelf not to long ago for $13.

Yeah, they have some fluctuations between "not bad" and "you're joking, right?" They insist that the '09 Abyss isn't the Abyssident, but I wouldn't even consider risking it.

I've gotten a few good deals on there, but they are far and few between and they get snatched up relatively fast. You've got to be lucky most of the time and be one of the first couple people to see a post if it's too good to pass up. For the most part, though, it's a giant LOL Factory.

Finally some Bolt Cutter love. Good feels now.

Mybeercollectibles and craigslist are some other options. And there's always Joel if you're into that sort of thing.

All three are poor options 95% of the time, IMO.

There are some super secretive email lists you could try to get on, AleWatcher. I don't think they're exactly "open to the public", however.

hey if anyone has 10 g's to burn this is all you
