So I was given a 50lb bag of old rice hulls from the winery I work at and was wondering if they'd be safe to use in my brewing. Just worried about the age and the fact that the bag was opened. They looks fine and do not smell rank. Hopefully this is a stupid question and everything will be fine, just don't know a damn thing about them

Soak some in some water for a while and then smell the water.

Boil some up in a small pot, let it cool and then taste the water to see if it's really nasty.
