A friend has offered up his unused kegerator so I was thinking of using it to control the temperature when fermenting. Will this work out? It's a real kegorator with tubing so it should be big enough to hold the bucket and I don't know yet but I'm guessing it will hold the correct temperature. Is there anything I should look for/check first?

Make sure it DOES have the temp range you need. And try not to have a lot of blow-off into your friend's kegerator. That's all I can think of.

blow-off? I have an old wine chiller that I was going to use but I don't think it stays consistant enough so I'm hoping the kegorator will. If it's supposed to keep beer cold I'm guessing it will be able to hold a steady temperature at least for an ale.

A kegerator without a temperature control override will be far too cold to ferment an ale. You could invest in one if you are going to be using it for an extended period of time. It just connects to the outlet so if you have to give the kegerator back then you just hold on to the device and use it on a fridge of your own in the future. Most people get a Johnson Temperature Controller.
