We keep getting cloudy glasses, I've tried brute force & ignorance with wire wool. vinegar, lime scale remover but nothing shifted the cloudy appearance that develops on drinking glasses. I'd given up when my better half saw a "eye of toad, wing of bat" type recipe, it's a variant of this:
"We live in a hard water area and vases and drinking glasses sport unsightly, difficult to shift, cloudy rings. The remedy is easy and satisfying to make, requiring just eggshells and two lemons. Crush two eggshells into a cup and pour over the lemon’s juice. Leave the shells to dissolve over 48 hours and then strain the liquid, which will now be a pale opaque off-yellow. Use this liquid on glass that has become cloudy and in an instant it becomes clear and sparkly again. Watching it happen for the first time on a much-loved but grown-ugly flower vase was like having it new again."
In our version, think it was from the Times, it said to leave the "stuff" on the glass for 24 hours, rather than it "instantly" removing the cloudiness. The scientist in me is going to try lemon juice alone, but I don't think it's just an acid effect because vinegar & lime scale remover had no effect. Whatever it really does the business, I soaked half a glass in this stuff & the difference was very obvious the next morning.
