Odd Sound from CO2 Line/Tank

Today I hooked up a two way CO2 manifold to a chest freezer that I primarily use as a fermentation chamber, but when not using it as a fermentation chamber I plan on using it to cool and carbonte the next beer(s) in line.

I routed the CO2 line so I could keep the CO2 tank outside.

After setting it up I noticed a really odd noise coming from the line (after releasing a quick disconnect to see if air was flowing.

I have no idea what this noise is. I know the tank/regulator I use in my primary kegerator doesn't make this noise. Is this a bad regulator? Too much of a restriction in the line?

It makes same noise when hooked up to a keg (just quieter) Disconnected there for the sake of the video

I just hooked mine up to a two-way as well. Mine makes a squeal until the keg pressurizes, but I've never heard one that sounds like that.

Yea the other one always made a noise but not this noise.

Anyone have any ideas I want to figure out if this noise is a problem or not. I just bought this regulator recently so if it is a bad regulator I probably only have a little time left to try and exchange if that is it

If the valves on that manifold have spring-loaded check valves my bet would be the noise is caused by those. One of the checks on a six-way manifold in my keezer does that much more than the others. Bypass the manifold and see what happens, my bet is the noise goes away...

Unfortunately noise still happens when bypassing manifold. It sounds like it is coming from the regulator. A friend of mine said that is the normal noise for him with a 5# CO2 tank. Very different noise than my 10# tank though. Same taprite model used for both tanks.

Wonder if the second regulator got damaged in transit

Ok, it wasn't obvious that everything was new/untested - I thought you just added a manifold.

Does the new regulator also have a check-valve built into the shut-off?

Looking at my primary kegerator setup the connections to regulators are simple barbs into the valve. (I have 2 check valves for that one just haven't gotten around to installing them)

Would the check valves make that noise?

They can. Check valves are typically a stainless ball that gets wedged into a seat by a spring. Positive pressure lifts the ball off the seat; pressure from the keg above the regulator setting jambs the ball back in the seat.

As I said, I have a check in one of my manifolds that rattles like the dickens when gas is flowing to that keg, so I imagine it could happen with a check that's in the regulator shut-off valve.

Bottom line: if the regulator is properly maintaining pressure in the keg, I wouldn't worry about noise...

I'm guessin', when the pressure equalizes, the noise stops, yes?

Mine do the same thing.
Hook it up, crank up the pressure, and it'll squeal / moan til the vessel comes up to line pressure.
Mine will sometimes squeal a little when dispensing some pints.

Yea it stopped as soon as the pressure equalized. Just a very different noise than the tank/regulator I had been using which doesn't have check valves yet so caught me off guard and got me a little concerned
