I do think the Pats will win, but last year's Pack D was in the top 10, IIRC. They lose Cullen Jenkins as a FA and the D goes in the tank.

I do believe Packers were #2, Steelers #1 in D (not just picks) in 2010. Anyway, that's enough on that mess until draft day. I need a new avatar...

EDIT: Had to check. #2 in pts allowed at 15, Steelers #1 at 14.5 - Still that's the one that matters. Moved to 22 pts in 2011 because of losing a fat guy

As a non-biased football fan, if Gronk is ineffective (or out) because of that injury I think that bodes very badly for a Patriots win.

Definitely hurts.

Sebastian Volmer coming back helps a lot, though, because that lets them line up Nate Solder as another blocking tight end (his college position). They can either go REALLY big with the three-tight end look, or at least have another really good blocker on the line to protect Brady. And, they still have Hernandez.

I really don't think this is going to be a very high scoring game, something kind of like the last matchup, and it's going to come down to the end. This SHOULD be a great game, if you aren't going to watch it you ought to be banned from ever again participating in this thread.

What the Pats have always done better than anyone else is those short dink-and-dunk passes. Quick outs to Welker and Branch. Quick passes to Hernandez and Gronk, they're two of the best in the league in YAC.

There's more than that, though. If they line up Hernandez as an H-back, look for him to get a couple carries, in no small part to keep the Giants' D-line off balance. They haven't run many screen passes this year, but look for them to run a few with Woodhead. If the Giants are pinning their ears back on the pass rush, look for Woody to run a few draws as well.

The Pats don't give up a lot of sacks to anyone, and it has a lot to do with the playcalling. The Giants are looking to make a statement, but if they're TOO aggressive, if they neglect their gap and contain responsibilities, the Pats will exploit that.

I mean, look at Terrell Suggs last week. He's one of the best defensive linemen in the league, and he didn't do jack.

Giants can get pressure with just their front 4 but those guys actually can be handled. Brady is gonna need to get rid of the ball quickly, but he's great at that and had Welker and Hernandez even if Gronk isn't at full go. Plus that Giants secondary sucks. Each team should put up 30 points. Brady is gonna have to keep pace with Nicks and Cruz. Nicks is a beast and no one on NE is gonna cover him.

That's all well and good, but the real question is, How many fish are you gonna catch on Sunday?

What the over-under on that?

I'm just not convinced about this whole "The Giants D is playing awesome lately". Just look at the stats for the whole year and in every category, the Giants were almost a dead heat with the Pats D or worse.

People say, "Oh, well, the Giants are healthy now and they're playing better".

Ok.. that could be 100% true but what about the Pats?? They have Spikes and Chung back healthy for the first time all season and the Pats D is playing a lot better as of late.

My only point is you have two defenses that were basically terrible all year, they both have a couple key guys healthy and both are playing well as of late... but all you hear is constant ******* over how dominant the Giants D is all of a sudden. I don't get that at all.

This is a terrible Super bowl for an Eagles fan. I HATE the Giants, but I dislike the Patriots every since they "beat" the Eagles in the Super Bowl. Quoted "beat" for obvious reasons. :p I'm going with the Patriots only because they have nicer outfits :)

They're not playing lights out on defense. Green Bay was out of sync, and if Alex doesn't suck the Niners win that game by 2-3 Tds. He had guys open downfield most of the night, it's just that his vagina would not allow him to take chances. The Giants dline is legit, their linebackers are okay, but their secondary is garbage. Problem is the Giants offense and Eli and those relievers(best receiver core in the NFL) are lightyears better than the Tebows and the Ravens offenses. Whoever the winning team is will have the worst winning defense in Superbowl history I believe. Still, a 9-7 team that allowed more points than they scored is pathetic, if they win they'll be the worst Superbowl champion ever, but they'll still be the champion.

I don't know much about the Pats O-Line and how it matches up against the Giants D-Line. My statement came from being relentlessly bombarded with Giants stats and clips all the time because of where I live of course. Plus, until today when my FiOs gets hooked up finally, I've mostly been stuck watching every Giants and Jets game all year.

It definitely seems like the Pats secondary is shored up now with the healthy returns, but in the one-and-done playoff atmosphere, I think its better to compare matchups than defense to defense.

yeah, and don't get me wrong... I certainly wasn't pointing that mini-rant at you. It was pointed at the entire media and anyone else who's all giggly over the Giants D.

Again.. it's constant "Ooooo how are the Pats going to handle that D-line!?!?" Uhhh... I dunno... the Giants were ranked 25th in the freakin' NFL in Points Allowed... apparently everyone else has figured that D-line out.

JPP running his mouth now. Team has a loud mouth for being 9-7.

They're in the big game. That's all that matters. Like the Cards in the World Series, they got hot and the ball started bouncing their way at the right time.

The Niners will be back in the playoffs next year, but they will be more along the lines of the Seahawks of last season, by default.

You're pretty hung up on that 9-7 thing. I wonder if the 49'ers would agree to a 9-7 as long as they get that one important playoff win they couldn't get.

I'm sure they would. Doesn't change the fact that the Giants have been running their mouths for weeks.

Lol, 8-2 outside the division. Cards were 7-2 in their last 9. The NFC West was probably the second best division in the NFC next to the NFC South. It'll be even better next year.

Oh look, another soccer fan. The North ruled the NFC.

I take it you're a soccer fan? You obviously have no NFL knowledge.

On a funnier note, Jizzelle is sacred.

Dear lord, pweeze help my Tommy to bring home another Superbowl. And help my kitty to get well real soon. Amen.

That's what they do best, trust me I know. But 10 wins, i'll take it. I honestly think if the Saints had home field, they would be in the big dance this weekend.

Absolutely agree on the saints. But football should be played outdoors. They play like an arena team.
