OK, so I decided to try and make a porter. It's been a while since I've had one ... so I figured what the hell. It's been fermenting for 4 days, took a hydro reading, and it's coming along nicely so far.

Here's the question. yes I know that this is not what the finished beer will taste like, but it's still going to resemble the sample I tasted ... at least it my experience it will. It didn't taste like a porter at all. I'm curious if I goofed on the recipe. Would the following recipe qualify for a porter? A brown porter more specifically I guess:

I'd agree that it would be in the Brown Porter category. Throwing in some Black Patent or Roast Barley next time around would put you into Robust Porter territory.
