When batch sparging must the water be poured in all at once or can it be added thru say a one inch valve? I have been searching for an answer to this question for a couple of days but have been unable to come up with a definitive answer.

Thank You
Paul

ideally all at once. If you add it through a valve, you'll lose a lot of temperature during the time it takes to drain.

If that's you only option heat your water to 190f, that way even with heat loss you should be able to hit 168-170f.

Thank you for your quick replies. In my situation I think that heating the water hotter might be my best bet.

If I do go with a valve setup do you think I would be smart to install a baffle of some sort to more evenly distribute the water?

No need for a baffle - just keep the valve closed on your MLT until all of your sparge water is in, otherwise you may get some channeling.

Thanks again.

I do not think channeling should be a problem since I will be stirring after the sparge water is added.
