So my wife purchased me all sorts of stuff for a home brewing kit this past X-mas. I finally found the time to brew my first batch, i decided to do a Dogfish Head 60min clone. So the brew and everything went fine, the fermenting and everything went as planned. Once i transferred it to secondary I dry hopped it for 7 days with warrior and Amarillo hops (roughly 1.5 oz's of each).

I tasted it right before i was bottling it and it worried me a little bit. It had a very watered down tasted on the front end and i would say roughly half the bitter/hoppy taste of the normal 60min would have. The front end really tasted like a coors light, i was kinda freaking out, but went ahead with bottling with anyways.

So roughly 10 days later i cracked the first bottle and to my amazement it turned out freaking great. It ended up being citrusy on the front end and the bitterness pretty much ended up being the same. I would describe it as a wizen meets IPA and had a baby!!!

So the hops i used were Sicmo, warrior and amarillo, would any of them cause the beer to be citrusy?

So as it turns out it is a very good beer for summer time!!! ill post pics of the recipe and the different stages of the beer before and after. :mug:

I know the amarillo has citric notes for sure. Don't think the others have much if any. I made a purely amarillo beer a few weeks ago, and it's very "citrusy".

I've dry hopped with Simcoe. It gives a great grapefruit flavor and aroma without the bite that usually comes with grapefruit.

Welcome! :mug:

I am a newbie around here and I haven't brewed a batch just yet - waiting for the rest of my materials... ;)

Your brew sounds Amazing!! :D My hubby and I love Dogfish Head 90Min. It's so delish! I cannot wait to see pictures of this!! I explained to him yesterday that once I brew my first batch and get going - I will be able to use all kinds of extracts and hops!

Congrats on your first Brew!! :mug:
I will be subbing into your thread more often...:)

Peace. Love. & Beer.
Cheers! :mug:

Thank you, i think that somewhere down the line i might actually try to do a Hoppy hefeweizen

i am going to be brewing two batches next week, taking a few days off for my bday and will be brewing. If you like dogfish head, you should look into trying Flying Dog, they are a brewery that originated in Denver but moved to Fredrick MD years ago. That is by far my favorite local brew.

I will be doing a clone beer of one their brews called Raging B***H, i am amped to get it done!

This was during primary fermentation

Looks pretty good to me but you;ll definitely need to send me one so I can taste test it for you :D

I have gotten some big sweet grapefruit from a combo of simcoe and amirillo. I love it! Congrats on the brew!

Ha! Now that I got through all of your pics...
Looks Delish!

Yea it's been done for about three weeks, it tastes great! I was researching and from what I found the ABV that this is, the peak of aging is 2-3 months so saving most to that time frame

Sweet!! I am sure you have enjoyed! I am a noob and trying to get the best of the best advice!

This is the recipe that i used, i am still not sure how i ended up with the watered down taste before i bottled it, but the end result is what i am happy with so i am not to worried i guess!!! so the OG that i got was 1.044 and my FG 1.010, and i am taking a guess that the ABV is around 4.6-5% so feel free to try if you want, is there a way to create a recipe on this site?

This absolutely great, dude! Awesome!! I love the kit, too!! The wife did such a great job!! The hubby's birthday is coming up soon, & I am thinking of getting him some brewing stuff... I just don't know what else to get & because this is ours together, it might be fun! I would just get to do all of the updates!! Eeeeeek!!! We are waiting one more week before we bottle our Bock we made a weed ago.. We are really excited & getting antsy! I just keep going over in my head the bottling process.. We are still trying to find those bottles with pop tops instead of picking up the ones with the twist ones.... :p Any who!! Congrats!!

What are you doing next???
... that's what I am trying to figure out...

Peace. Love. & Beer.
:mug: CHEERS!! :mug:

i actually just did one last friday, and it is fermenting right now. i was doing a random hopped up IPA, i used like 8oz of hops during boiling, used warrior, amarillo, and columbus

boil 60 mins 1.5 Warrior info pellet 15.0
boil 20 mins 1.5 Amarillo info pellet 7.0
boil 20 mins 1.5 Columbus info pellet 15.4
boil 1 min 1.0 Amarillo info pellet 7.0
boil 1 min 1.0 Columbus pellet 15.4

dry hoping with an oz of each!

Just wanted to try different combonation of hops that i found that would give it a good hoppy and bittery taste and aroma!!
