I heard that spraying a carved pumpkin inside and out with a cleaner with chlorine will help preserve your jack-o-lantern. Being a home brewer, i wondered how Star San sanitizer would work. So after carving our pumpkins, i sprayed my solution inside and out and it worked like a charm!!! The pumpkins are just now beginning to look semi dried out but there is NO mold, soft spots or visual decay even after 10 or so days.

Just thought i would share with my fellow beer lovers the good that our hobby does beyond intoxicating the masses!!!:mug:

The culprit behind the decay is microbes. Damn bacteria just want to turn everything into smelly, mushy, gunk. They are why we cant have anything nice!

After the star-san dries, wipe 'er down with some vaseline and it wont dry out either . I also use star-san for fresh fruits and vegetables, in a spray bottle :)
