Ok, so im very new to hops growing. Not to long ago i recieved a 4 pack of rhisomes as a gift from my mother. So, right off the bat i planted them. 3 days later growth. Ive read the can and will grow very tall. Im asking can i force stop the growth by cutting back the height of the trellis. If so what are the pros and cons of the yield.

Once you trim the terminal bud the hop will stop growing in length and will focus energy on the axial growth from what I've read. I'd guess that it has a negative impact on yield only because no commercial growers seem to do this.

From what I remember reading years ago, once they no longer have support vertically they'll stop growing vertically. I used to have two trellises and strung twine between them to let the hops grow horizontally. It worked, but wasn't great.

Also, from what I recall, they don't produce a lot of cones in the lower region, they start a few feet up.

Perhaps if you share some info about the space you have, others can provide some ideas or solutions they've come up with in the past.

The trellis idea seems like a winner. Ill have to keep u posted. I have 4 hops to figure out.
