Hi, all. I'm new to posting, but I've been bouncing around threads, gathering info which has been invaluable. So thanks to everyone here - with your help I've come a long way in homebrewing over the past 2 years.
I initially started brewing long before that, but it didn't go very well. I had been to an all grain brew session at an acquaintance's house - so I decided I'd give it a try. With a "figure it out as I go" mentality, I went to a restaurant supply store and bought a 100 quart aluminum kettle for around 100 bucks. A family member had some winemaking equipment I could use, and I had an essentially unlimited supply of free buckets (I work in a bakery - corn syrup buckets are ideal). I jumped right in without having any clue what I was doing... and now that I think about it, I really didn't know much about beer in general. So, it should come as no surprise my motley collection soon found itself collecting spiderwebs in the corner of the basement.
That is, until fall of 2014. For whatever reason, it crawled out of the back of my mind, and I gave it another go. This time, I started visiting forums like this one, learning techniques, theories... occasionally bordering on obsession. I still use the original kettle as the HLT for my gravity driven system. My main goal in the next year to move to automated temperature control and logging (probably via raspberry pi). I also want to further explore yeast growing/banking.
Thanks again. I look forward to continued learning, and hopefully I can occasionally be of help, as others have helped me.
