Hey Folks,

I'm just getting into brewing, been doing a little bit of research here and there.

I haven't actually brewed beer yet but I'm hoping to get various brewing apparatuses for Christmas from my Wife.

I live in the Cincinnati area, not sure if there are any decent stores nearby but I would love to know about them.

I'm a heavy forum user, mainly on reef aquarium related forums. I've been in this hobby for over four years now. Even though a lot of time, energy, and money is spent on this hobby I'm looking to add brewing to the mix.

cheers! I am from Cincy but living out in Oregon now.

look into listermanns that place is amazing and they have decades of experience

there are some newer places but listermanns is seriously the spot for brewing

Welcome fellow Cincinnatian. I've only been brewing about 5 months myself. Listermans in the biggest, oldest store in town. Not sure where you're located, but there is also Paradise brewing on the east side and Table Top Brewing on the west side. Just Google them. All have websites. Happy Brewing!

Listermann's is great. It's located in Norwood, right by Xavier if you are familiar with that area. I am lucky, it's only about 5 minutes from my house.

Listermann's is the biggest and has the most options and fresh liquid extract. Table Top has the nicest guys working there, but they are smaller. Paradise is a little...dingy...but the guy is nice as well.

So are the local stores up with the times or are they dated and out of touch with the current trends?

This is one issue we have with the local fish stores, almost all of them in Cincinnati are really dated and behind the times. This is why I conduct almost all of my business online, when it comes to purchasing supplies/equipment/livestock. The local places pass on too much information that is now dated/incorrect/dangerous, they lack the latest products, etc etc.

I'm wondering if this is also true for brew stores.

Well, you can certainly buy everything you'll need there. If you get on the topic of secondary fermentation, they will probably advocate it all day. IMO, for most beers secondary is not necessary at all unless your dry hopping, adding fruit/adjuncts, or other specific reasons. I've not really openly chatted about touchy topics like that with any of those guys.

You will learn more on these forums from the hundreds of very talented homebrewers (and the thousands of drunken amateurs) than you will from 1 or 2 guys in a homebrew shop. This doesn't mean you shouldn't support them. I order online probably 60% of the time and go to the LHBS the other 40%.

When I have a questions or need to learn more, I go here and search the forums.

I am kind of new to brewing. I have been to listmans. It is located on Dana Ave right by Xavier. They have everything you need there. I have felt like I am inconviencing the employes by asking questions though. They always answer my questions . It seems they are very knowledgeable.

Table top Brewing is on Harrison Ave. They have everything you need for brewing beer. The employees there love to talk about beer. They are very helpful with any questions or problems you might have. They also have a how to brew class once a month. I went to that and learned a lot

I have never been to paradise. I hear they have a large selection and knowledgeable staff.

I recently ordered some bottles form paradise, 9.50 or something per case, best prices I've seen.
