Hello all! My name is Jacob. I'm from a small-town in eastern Kentucky called Ashland. I just recently turned 21 and I have always loved the taste of craft beers. I was the kid in high school that would drink with my friends parents at a party instead of drinking the usual "cheap" beer. I recently purchased a kit from a friends dad. I've attached a picture with what I have. I was told that I don't really need a carboy. I also bought some malts today. I bought a plain white malt and a Briess Chocolate Malt. If you all have any recipes I could use these with I would greatly appreciate it. I am very excited to join the ranks with homebrewers whom have done this for awhile and know their stuff. I would also love to hear about craft brews that I should try. Thank you all and have a wonderful day

Welcome to this forum, and the hobby.

Your kit looks pretty complete from what I can see.

There are endless recipes you can use those 2 ingredients in, I'm sure you know you will also need yeast and hops to make beer. If you could share some commercial beers that you like, we might be able to help you find a recipe.

I suggest getting yourself a book on homebrewing such as John Palmer's "The Joy of Homebrewing". There are resources in the form of podcasts on the web such as The Brewing Network, Basic Brewing Radio and Kraft Beer Radio. This forum is also a great place to ask questions and learn.

I have the complete joy of homebrewing by Charlie Papazian that I've been reading.
I like Heavy beers like stouts, porters, lagers, and things like that. I really love Guinness. I like the flavor it has.
