Yes I'm a Yooper, born and raised. Live in Kingsford, MI but originally from Iron River, MI. I have been brewing for a bit and picked it up from a cousin who brews from all grain. Once I got set up to brew from all grain there is no turning back to extract. I really enjoy brewing all grain and it gets my mind to relax and forget about work. I also only keg and carbonate my beer.
I belong to our local home brewing group the Tri-County fermenters.

Now I want to try making a kegging a root beer for my kids. I have a separate keg already for just the root beer. So any good recipes you can point me to?

Thanks,
Kyle Lindstrom :mug:

Welcome to the forum! (Go Buckeyes!)

Keep an eye out for another one of your kind that lurks around here. She even has a few (a lot) of mediocre (incredibly well regarded) recipes floating around here.

Enjoy!

Welcome to the group. I'm a troll (I live near Traverse City) and literally got home today from a trip to Marquette. If you haven't had a chance yet, definitely check out Black Rocks and Ore Dock. I may have had a few (dozen) of their brews this past weekend.

Funny part about Blackrocks is that it was started by a friend Andy. He used to be the younger kid that helped with the rafts when I was a rafting guide here at Piers Gorge. Marquette has a lot of great micro breweries. We are finally getting one here in Kingsford. Its called 51st State Brewery. I will probably see is he needs some help on the brewing. I would love to help with that.

Welcome to the forum.

Rootbeer from scratch (you know, burdick root and other stuff I'll never find) is a challenge. BUT, if you don't mind flavoring with extract, this is a recipe I've used many times and my kids do like. (they aren't kids anymore).

• 1 Bottle Rainbow Flavors Rootbeer Extract
• 4 gals of water
• 2 lb bag of Domino Dark Brown Sugar
• 6 Cups White Cane Sugar
• 2 Teaspoon Vanilla

1. Heat up 1 - 2 gals of water just enough to dissolve sugars (make sure it's fully dissolved).
2. Remove from heat add root beer extract and vanilla and get every drop out of the bottle.
3. Pour into keg and add the rest of the water stir and shake really good to get it mixed up.
4. Connect to CO2 and carb to 40psi

BTW, I find that rootbeer might NEVER carbonate until you get it cold and shake the crap out of it.
