Hello all. My name is Jason and I haven't actually finish my first brew yet. I finally started my first 6 pack batch from a "Brew Your Own Beer" kit. I'm excited but even before tasting I want to increase my scale. I'd like to do (at least) case at a time. There is lots of good info here, I look forward to sponging of off everyone else's brew experience. Any advise for a beginner is greatly appreciated.

Peace

Hello, and Welcome!

My advise is to get equipment to do at least 5 gal. at a time. Most recipes are for 5 gal. batches, and that's about 2 cases + a couple of sampling bottles (50 - 12 oz. bottles) If you get into the hobby at all, you'll need that much to occupy yourself while you wait for the next batch to brew.

Also, read howtobrew.com, and the new sticky in the Beginners forum I think it's called "Lead Pipe..."something. They're both great sources.

Most of all, welcome to your newest addiction!:mug:

Welcome to the forums!

As Jesse mentioned, five gallons is fairly standard and most of the beginner equipment kits and ingredient kits are based around five gallon batches. I'd suggest checking to see if there is a local homebrew store in your area; they'll have the equipment and ingredient kits there. If no local homebrew store around, then there are some good ones online as well.

I'll also second the howtobrew site, as well as mention the homebrew wiki here on homebrewtalk.com.

Good luck,

Rick

Jason,

Welcome!

As a newbie myself I have to warn you, this place is VERY addictive. I've learned tuns (pun intended) of information already.

Welcome to the site. My wife went to school in Moorhead so I know the area a little bit. Enough to know that in a typical winter there is not much to do but drink. So I guess you picked a good hobby for the location.
