Hey guys. I picked up a new Firestone keg on Craigslist a few weeks ago for basically nothing. The problem is that I need new posts for it. It was used for soda and I have tried everything short of a nuclear bomb to clean them and at this point I'm done scrubbing (or trying to scrub) and just want to put new posts on it. Everything else on the keg is good and clean. Just the threads and interior of the posts, rivets and threads will not come clean. Got any idea where I can get them? I've looked online and can't find them anywhere. Need ball lock.

Thanks!
Jason

The internal threads, on the removable post, will not come clean?

Get some Simple Green, or some "purple" cleaner, from the auto parts store.

Drop the posts in a boiler full of water, ( stripped of innards on the posts), bring to a boil, and reduce to a "simmer".

Start adding some of the above cleaner, per the dilution directions on the container.

The reason for adding @ this stage, is you can stop if it begins to boil over / foam over.

Give it 15-20 minutes @ a simmer, then turn it off and let it cool, then clean your threads with an old toothbrush, or your Wife's toothbrush.

They'll come clean, unless there is some epoxy on them or something like that!

Edit: I have an old crock pot in my shop, that keeps Simple Green loaded in it, for heated cleaning.

If I am rebuilding a carburetor, that gets swapped out with PineSol cleaner, which kick a$$ on a carburetor!

Correct. The threads and several spots on the interior will not come clean. I've tried pbw, oxy, scrubbing till my fingers fall off. I like that suggestion, but in addition to the threads, the plastic bushings inside the type c posts will not come clean either and I don't think these would survive a 15 min boil. I'm open to suggestions, but have been trying to get these clean for two weeks and am ready to just replace them and be done with it.

Have you tried Williams brewing? I think they will have what you are looking for. Just pay attention to the notes regarding poppits, as some of their posts require the universal type. At this point you may want to just replace them anyway, along with the seals so you can be done with the entire project.

Already bought the seals right after I picked up the keg before I realized the posts were a problem. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check both of those out.
