brewing a mead right now, going to put it in 3G carboy which takes a 6.5 size stopper. I'm an idiot and got an 8.5 stopper, and it is like 1 mm too big, even while squeezing it as much as possible.

Any quick remedies on how to shrink my stopper to get it to fit? Would only be for a couple of days, so it doesn't need to be anything too pretty. Thanks!

I took a grinder to mine. To big to fit into the carboy so i shaved it down. Smelled like burnt rubber, but it did fit. Try some 80 grit sandpaper if you have any.
