I'm scaling Janet's Brown ale up from the 6 gallon batch recipe in Brewing Classic Styles to a 12 gallon batch. My question is as I double the late hops (15 minutes and under) the IBU's are way over what they are in the original recipe. Should I keep those doubled and decrease the 60 minute addition so the IBU's are the same or should I keep the 60 minute addition as is and decrease the late hops. Common sense tells me to decrease the 60 and keep the late hops as is. Thoughts? Original recipe calls for 63.4 IBUs and when I scale up the recipe I get 71.7 IBUs.

Decrease the 60 and keep the late hops as is. Don't ignore common sense!

That recipe is fantastic, by the way. You'll love it.

Yea, for any recipe you should always do the aroma hops first to achieve the level of hoppiness you want (timing and amounts, flavor vs aroma), find out how many IBUs they contribute, and then add bittering hops to hit the bitterness you want.
