Hi all. I've been lurking on these forums for about a year and this is my first post.

I've recently tried Ebulum Elderberry Black Ale from Williams Brothers Brewing and thought it was fabulous. I would like clone/interpret my own version of this beer.

I've been brewing all grain for the better part of a year and have an excellent grasp on the whole process and make my own recipes regularly. The only problem is that I've never brewed with elderberries before. Does anyone have a similar recipe or experience with what kind and how much elderberries to use in a five gallon batch of this? I'm looking for the elderberries to be present in the nose but also compliment the malt character and not be drowned out by specialty malts.

Thanks for the responses. Going to definitely check out those gruit sites from Orfy as he's never led me astray (drinking Orfy's mild mannered ale now). I wasn't able to dig up too much when I did my own searching.

Does anyone have first hand experience with elderberries? I might just make a small batch and get adventurous.
